Coming in and out of the field, there are always some must-haves that will do wonders in making you feel fresh and looking half decent!
The last thing I want to hear is how exhausted I look. I want to look fresh faced and have a kept look about me.
1. Lightweight Headlamp for Close-Work & Navigation
Having a good light to navigate your surrounds, find a place to use the bathroom, and change your clothes in the night, it’s absolutely pertinent to have a nimble high functioning little lamp. And it’s good to check yourself out a in pocket mirror to fix yourself up (hang it from the top of the tent if possible!)
This little lamp is not too bulky and is perfect for reading your favorite book in your tent without disturbing anyone else! It’s amazing for continual wear and it’s very simple in having one bright light.
Check it out here for this fair priced $9.99 Columbia Mini Head Lamp
2. Pocket Plucker and Mirror Set
I don’t know about you guys, but I have pesky chin hairs and side mustachio hairs that I have to pluck every so often. My eyebrows grow in pretty quickly as well so I can brush them up and pluck along the brow line to keep them neat and clean with this mirror and tweezer set. Scissors are great
I love that this has the mirror and is easy travel size for me to drop into my toiletry bag!
Check it out here for $9.99 Stainless Steel Tweezer and Mirror Set
3. Wash Basin for Face Washing
If you have access to water then by all means check out this light weight collapsible wash basin that you can do your morning routine in (field version)!
Check it out over here if interested for the wash basin pictured here.
4. Absorbent Hair/Face Towel
And if you’re washing your hair as well as your body, then you’re going to want these fast absorbing and fast drying microfiber towels.
What I like about these is that it can be folded into this compact double zippered breathable encasing that has a carabiner allowing you to save space. Plus storage accessibility is key here so you can clip it onto your bag.
Check out these fast absorbent towels here if you’re interested.
5.Retinol Face Cleansing Wipes
Instead of just picking up a quick pack of baby wipes or some random wipes from TJMAXX, I highly recommended these Retinal Face Wipes that allow for you to encourage regeneration of skin cells to avoid that tired camping face.
It allows for you to wipe your sweat, dirt and any BB cream (which I suggest below) without drying your face. It enables your skin to breathe and fight that textured skin look by helping keep pores clean and reducing buildup of skin cells.
And it also very gentle on your skin keeping it refreshed and help put a stop to oily skin.
Click here to check it out, a 2pack is $12.34, 50 count each.
Full Body Wipes
If you’re in need of full body wipes, to hit the hot spots, I would recommend these biodegradable wipes (bamboo) that are infused with aloe vera, tea tree oil and chamomile. It leaves you feeling fresh with no sticky residue, and dried out skin. The balanced pH level on these ensure that it is gentle on sensitive skin.
6. Lightweight BB Cream
Even if we’re camping or in the field for mission, we don’t want to look like exhausted and have people come up to us and say “Oh you look tired!”
Here’s a BB cream that helps keep the skin more matte and even toned. It’s hydrating, oil free, sheer natural coverage and offers SPF30.
What I like about it is, the range of pigments (there’s a shade guide as you scroll down on the product page). And the price! It helps smooth the appearance of pores (which give that textured tired look) and tones down any redness. It’s great especially for when you’re sweating and you want to keep something breathable on your skin.

7. Gel Eyebrow Applicator
A brow gel that can keep your brows defined and in place is perfect for keeping that fresh groomed look. It helped me look more put together because I would often take off my fleecy cap or my helmet while in the field and before using this my brows would get pushed down.
With the Eyebrow Gel, I had my brows defined and in place, giving me a more presentable face and not so disheveled from all the movement.
Note: I would avoid any mascara, because no matter how water proof it is, with sweat after a 12-15 hour day, it will smudge to the bottom lids of your eyes, giving you a messy look. Just stick with the clear brow gel, and use that to fan out the end of your lashes! Check it out here for the Argan Oil Infused Volumizing COVERGIRL Brow Gel
8. Lip Tinted Butter
Having tinted lip butter is perfect for the field/camping because it looks natural and not painted on.
For darker skin tones, I think Autumn Rain is a beautiful as well as Dewy Rose if you want more bubblegum pink tint. You want a lip butter that is pigmented, not too sheer, and not drying matte. This gives you that supple look and has a fresh light fruity aroma.
Click here for this tinted lip butter for $15.
9. Compact Travel Bag
We all need a hygiene bag, here’s one that I like that has a waterproof inside lining. I like this pink one for more privacy if you’re using it around others and just the overall airy aesthetic. and I also like this clear one that has two separated pockets so you know you packed everything!
And I also like this clear one that has two separated pockets so you know you packed everything! Since I’m forgetful, I like to also use the clear pack to ensure I pack everything after every use.
If you have the space and will be out there for longer, than this multifunctioning compact hanging toiletry bag is perfect! It’s big enough to fit all your essentials for washing and makeup (that BB cream and lip tints) needs. And it’s pretty durable too with a decent size hook that can be hung in any shower trailer.
I would use these for month long JRTC and NTC rotations if I am not in the BOX (if you know, you know). This would be perfect to carry with me to the shower trailers across the way from the Hooch Buildings (standing container like barracks).
These are the tents they may use for the woman and men if the mission calls for over a week.
