This article will divulge into the TWO main qualities that you need to influence people and attract worthwhile opportunities (I will provide anecdotal examples from my military experience as well).
The art of influence in this article will be discussed in a positive light. There are no mind games nor manipulation tactics discussed. The topics discussed here are rooted in authenticity.
By understanding how your energy can influence others, you can gain immense credibility and get others excited for your mission as well as their OWN ambitions.
People like to be around individuals who are driven and genuine in their pursuits. Read below to learn the two qualities you need!
So What Are These TWO qualities For Influence?
The Power Of Purpose
Women of charisma and personal magnetism almost invariably have a clear vision of who they are and where they are going and what they are trying to achieve.
Successful leaders in have a vision of what they’re trying to create and why they’re doing what they’re doing.
They’re focused on accomplishing some great purpose with their lives and with their work.
They’re decisive about every aspect of their lives.
They know exactly what they want and what they have to do to get it. They plan their work. And then work their plan.
The clearer you are about your purposes and goals, the more likely people will be to attribute other positive qualities to you as well. When you are clear about your goals, people will perceive you as a better more admirable human being.
When you have clear goals, you begin attracting people and opportunities necessary to make those goals a reality.
For instance, you will be remembered by how you make others feel. Your clear purpose inspires others to seek out the same and gets them excited about your mission as well! They will recommend you for other opportunities, positions and platforms because they see you as someone is credible, resilient and ready to deliver!
The whole world seems to move aside for the person who knows exactly where they are going.
How to Find Purpose
Think about what elicits a strong emotion or passion within you.
What cause do you empathize with? What motivates you? What in this world do you feel we need to fix or need more of?
This part is important to really do some soul searching on your mission, because it will drive you to keep going when on the days you may want to give up. We all are in search of something that tethers us to a worthwhile mission, whether we realize it or not.
Once you find your personal purpose, figure out what vehicle you’d like to use to work towards it. Pick something that requires a hard skillset(s) so you can be valuable to any company as either an employee, as a freelancer or as your own business owner.
Case Study: Purpose of Building Closer Communities
For instance, my goal is to build stronger knit communities wherever I go. I do so by creating programs and networks in the Army that help Soldiers come together and grow through master classes (professionally and personally). After the military, I intend to work on my real estate business where I want to build Spanish architecture type housing, where there is a courtyard and balconies to encourage neighborly conversations and places of congregation. I will most definitely add a community center and work with local small businesses for events.
Power of Self Confidence
Men and women with confidence and charisma have an intense belief in themselves and what they’re doing. They’re usually calm, articulate and composed about themselves and their work.
Your level in self-confidence is demonstrated in courage.
It is your willingness to do whatever is necessary to achieve a purpose that you believe in.
People are naturally attracted to those exude a sense of self-confidence. Those who have an unshakeable belief to rise above circumstances to attain their goals.
How to Cultivate Self Confidence
One of the ways you demonstrate self-confidence, by assuming people naturally like you, accept you and want to do business/work with you.
Have the belief that you are wonderful in your most authentic genuine nature.
No one wants to be around disingenuous people. They can immediately tell when someone is trying to force a persona that isn’t their own. Realness is becoming a rare quality, so the more genuine and comfortable you are in your own skin and personality, the easier it will be for others to relate and connect with you.
Even if it feels like imposter syndrome or delusion. There will be enough people and things trying to tear you down, don’t be one of them.
Look in the mirror and say to yourself ,”Look at you with your badass self. Yeah you definitely can light up a room!” And then throw in a hot dance move to solidify the affirmation. My go-to is the Tina Twerk.
Confidence AFFIrmations
Case Study: Energetic vs Quiet Confidence
I built my self-confidence by trying to bring up the level of energy in every room I walk into. But also knowing when you let others shine and sit back in a “quiet confidence”.
I try to be a friend’s hype-man. I try to ask about a co-worker’s family. I make jokes and know how to laugh at myself with ease. I ask questions to allow others to speak and tell their stories. I try to encourage others going through tough times. I ask people’s opinions so they know I value their perspective. I find commonalities with team mates so we can understand each other better. And I do this with a genuine interest.
As for quiet confidence, I worked on my personal skills by learning to listen and not interject (even when I get really excited about a subject).
I want others to feel heard around me, and through that practice I learned to be confident in not having to fill a silence with my voice. Not every situation required me to speak. Sometimes, it’s nice to just listen and learn about people’s nuances, experiences and their inclinations. It helps you understand how best to interact with them and what they will respond to best.
So my self confidence came from knowing where to add value in someone’s day and when to be in receive mode.
My time in the military has taught me that it is extremely important to get involved! You may not realize what saying “yes” to one opportunity might do for you. Give it your all, even if it seems like an uphill battle for a while. Results of any real consequence don’t happen within days, weeks or even months sometimes. It can take a year at least of a continuous grind. You will have off days, allow yourself to breathe. But then get right back on it!
If you let your purpose drive you, you can be relentless in your successes and soon gain a great network of people you can call on for support!
